Within the CRM, you can create either a Business Contact or a B2C Contact. A Business Contact should be used when creating a brand new company within your CRM for traditional B2B relationships. B2C Contacts would be created for consumers that buy directly from your business.

Sometimes, you may create a B2C Contact thinking that you'll have a B2C relationship with them, but ultimately they end up registering their business with you. As a result, you may need to convert their B2C Contact to a Business Contact instead. Or, you may have created someone as a B2C Contact in error, and need to convert them to the correct record type.

This conversion can be done in one of two ways:

Prerequisites

  • You'll need CRM Admin rights in order to follow the steps in this article

Option #1

Step 1: Open Contact Record & Convert

To convert your record type, open the Contact you'd like to convert and click the 'Convert' button under 'Categorisation'.

Step 2: Assign Contact to Company (Converting B2C to B2B Only)

If you're converting a B2C Contact into a B2B Contact, then you'll need to either assign the Contact to an existing Company, or create a new one. If you're assigning the Contact to a Company that already exists, simply click the pencil icon to search for this. If however you're creating an entirely new Company, simply give this Company a name. Once happy with your selection, click 'Convert'.

Step 3: Delete Company or Keep Company (Converting B2B to B2C Only)

If you're converting a B2B Contact into a B2C Contact, you can choose to either delete the Company that this Contact is under or keep it. Once happy with your selection, click 'Convert'.

Once your conversion is complete, a note is automatically added to the Activity outlining that this Contact has been converted.

Option #2

Step 1: Open Further Options Menu

To convert your record type, open the Contact you'd like to convert and click the three dots in the top right-hand corner to open the further options menu and select 'Convert to B2B' or 'Convert to B2C' (depending which you require).
