Whilst we are always working hard to provide a speedy service, you may occasionally notice that the CRM is slowing down. Due to the CRM running on a Web Browser, it's typically caused locally on your PC. This guide will run you through some easy checks to find the cause.
Internet Speed
Since the CRM is web-based, your internet speed will be a key factor in determining how quickly requests are sent and received. If your internet connectivity is running slow, then this will cause the CRM and other web pages to feel slow.
You can check your internet speed by doing a speed test. We use https://www.speedtest.net/, but you are welcome to use any website you wish. Download speeds between 20-30 Mbps are considered okay, with anything below that considered slow.
If you are getting below 20 Mbps, then we'd suggest you speak to your IT team about this or consult your internet provider if working from home.
Resource Usage
If you notice that not only the CRM/web pages are slow but your laptop as a whole is slow, it's possibly due to your device's resource usage, such as memory or CPU.
To check this, open Task Manager from the Windows start button or your toolbar. You'll see within the Processes tab some columns. Take a look at the CPU and Memory percentages. If you're memory or CPU is using more than 80%, then you might want to look at closing some applications. You'll see the name of the Applications using the most of these resources, which should indicate which need to be closed.
Google Chrome is known for using a lot of memory, so an easy way to tackle this is by having a minimal number of tabs open at one time. If the usage is still high for Google Chrome, you might want to look into using our other supported browser, Firefox.
If you notice another Application using lots of resources, please speak to your IT team about whether this is required or can be limited to help improve the performance of your computer.
Azure Speed Test
The CRM is hosted by Microsoft Azure, and so sometimes you can have issues connecting to their servers. Azure does have speed tests to make it really easy for us to tell if that's where the issue is.
Click here for the Azure Speed Test site. Once opened, you'll need to select the data centres. We use North Europe, UK South, UK North and West Europe. For customers based in APAC, you can tick Australia Central, Australia East and Australia Southeast, as well as the region nearest to your location.
The Test Results at the bottom should all show as green, and importantly, have the line graph be consistent. If the lines are going up and down, this could mean your connection is unstable.
Another indicator would be the latency, represented by the graph's Y axis. The higher the latency, the longer the data takes to get from Microsoft's data centres to you, which can be a cause of slowness. When raising a CRM Slowness case with the Support team, it's important to run this test and include a screenshot for them to review.
