How to Complete the Opportunity Import Template

The Opportunity Import tool allows you to upload multiple Opportunities into your CRM using an Excel spreadsheet. This helps you keep your sales data organised and in one place. To learn how to use the Opportunity Import tool, check out this article.

This guide explains how to correctly complete the Opportunity Import template before uploading your data.


Before You Begin

  1. Ensure all Contacts already exist in your CRM before importing Opportunities Click here to learn more about our Company & Contact importer.

  2. Download and use the latest Opportunity Import template

  3. Check your pipelines, statuses, and users are set up in advance

Mandatory Fields

The following fields must be completed for every row in your spreadsheet. If any are missing, the import will fail.

  1. Opportunity Contact ID

    • Each Opportunity must be linked to an existing Contact

    • Use the Contact’s unique ID from the CRM

    • You can find this on the Contact record

  2. Status Description

    • The stage your Opportunity is currently at within your pipeline

    • Examples include: Unqualified, Qualified, Proposal, Won, Lost

  3. Opportunity Estimated Close

    • The date you expect the Opportunity to close

    • This can be updated later if needed

  4. Opportunity Guttometer

    • Your estimated likelihood of winning the Opportunity

    • Enter a value between 0 and 100

  5. Source Name

    • Where the Opportunity originated from

    • Examples: Website, Exhibition, Email campaign, Sales visit

  6. Salesperson Email Address

    • The email address of the user responsible for the Opportunity

    • The user must already exist in the CRM


Recommended Fields

These fields are optional but strongly recommended to improve reporting and usability.

  1. Contact Email

    • The email address of the Contact linked to the Opportunity

  2. Opportunity Description

    • A clear and meaningful title for the Opportunity

    • This will be visible when viewing related records

  3. Pipeline Description

    • The name of the pipeline you want the Opportunity to follow

    • Ensure it matches an existing pipeline in your CRM

  4. Status Detail Description

    • Provides additional context about the status

    • Examples: Lost to competitor, Lost due to price

  5. Type Description

    • Used to categorise Opportunities

    • Examples: Product sale, Service contract

  6. Opportunity Summary

    • A brief overview of the Opportunity

  7. Note

    • Adds notes to the Opportunity activity feed

    • Useful for capturing key details or context

  8. Task Date

    • Set a follow up task for the assigned user

    • Use a date format such as: 20/02/2025

  9. Opportunity Value

    • The expected value of the Opportunity

    • Enter as a number (for example: 500 or 1000)

    • The currency will default to your CRM’s base currency
