Make Tasks either Required or Optional for Opportunity & Problem Statuses (Preview)

How to edit whether a task is required or optional for opportunity and problem statuses.

Written by Alan Molina

When updating a Task against an Opportunity or Problem, you may be either required to set a follow-up Task or prefer this to be optional. This guide explains how to change whether a Task is mandatory or optional.

Step 1: Go to System Settings

From the navigation menu, click on Settings, then select System Settings.

Step 2: Configure Statuses

In the system settings, search for "Opportunity Status" or "Problem Status" and select 'Click to configure' against the one you'd like to amend.

Of the statuses available, the Task Required filed will show as either 'Optional' or 'Required'. Those with 'Required' will force you to set a Task.

Step 3: Update 'Task Required'

By clicking in the pencil icon against the relevant status, you can then click into the 'Task Required' drop-down and update this to be optional. This means your CRM users can clear the Task without being forced to set a follow-up Task afterwards. Once this setting is disabled, users will be able to clear or close tasks without completing them.

Step 4: Save Changes

Ensure that all changes are saved to apply the updated configuration.
