Set up your Opportunity Types

Opportunity Types help categorise your Opportunities by what type of sale it is.

Written by Alan Molina

The Opportunity Type features on all Opportunities in the CRM, helping you categorise what kind of sale this is. For example, your business may operate in different sales areas/product groups, so it's important to be able to differentiate these types of Opportunities.

Prerequisites

  • You'll need CRM Admin rights in order to follow the steps in this article

Step 1: Go to System Settings

To edit your Opportunity Types, go to the navigation menu, click on the Settings, then select System Settings.

Step 2: Navigate to Sales in Settings

Next, navigate to the Sales section and scroll down until you reach the Opportunity Type configure option. By selecting the 'Click here to Configure' link, the Configure Opportunity Type window will open. Here, any existing Opportunity Types will be listed.

Step 3: Add Opportunity Type

To add a new one, simply click on the plus icon in the top right-hand corner.
You'll now be able to start filling out information about your new Opportunity Type. The description should be relevant for all CRM users. If this particular Opportunity Type will always use a certain Opportunity Pipeline, then you can set a default Pipeline for it here.

You can also select a default Pipeline for the Opportunity to be created in when this type is chosen. This is useful if you consistently want Opportunities of this type to be assigned to a specific Pipeline. Setting a default helps prevent users from forgetting this step and reduces the number of clicks required, streamlining your processes.

Once you are happy with the information entered, click Create to save your new Opportunity Type.

To mark an old Opportunity Type as obsolete, click the pencil icon within the Configure Opportunity Type window and select Obsolete.
