Articles can be viewed on your site via the Articles plugin. Please note: the Articles plugin is not backwards compatible with previous News plugins.

Once you've accessed the CMS and selected the site you wish to add your article to, the Articles tab can be found in the ribbon bar.

This will show you any pre-existing articles on the left hand side, and the key details about the selected article on the right-hand side.

Creating a New Article

Step 1: Select 'New Article'

To create a new article, go to the Articles tab and select ‘New Article’ from the top ribbon bar, giving your new article a title.

Step 2: Enter Additional Information

Date
The date that the article will display live on your website. This defaults to the date on which this article was created in the CMS Editor, but can be modified to a future or past date.

Show Author As
The name of the person who wrote the article. Again, by default this will select the user that created the article, but can be modified to be by someone else.

Teaser Text
This is the preview text that will appear in the mini article list. It should give a brief summary of the article.

Thumb Image
The thumbnail image to appear for this article.

Category
The category for this article. Categories can be created via the New Category button in the ribbon bar.

Expires
The date on which the article should no longer appear on your site. For example, this is useful if your article was about a limited time offer on a certain product range that is about to go out of stock.

Tags
A comma separated list of tags for this article.

The articles plugin can be used in tag cloud mode, which will provide a cloud of tags used in articles. Tags also appear at the bottom of articles that use them. Clicking on a tag will take you to a list of articles that use that tag.

External URL
If you want this article to link to an external page rather than to the articles plugin, you can specify this link.

Preview Text
This is the text that appears both in the article list and at the top of an article’s detail page. It will usually contain the first couple of paragraphs of the article, before the “Read More” jump. The “Read More” link will take the user to the full article view, at an anchor tag that starts them at the end of the preview text. The article title will take them to the top of the full article view.

Article Text

This is the rest of the article content that leads on from the preview text. It will appear after the “Read More” anchor tag.

Step 3: Additional Steps

If you've copy and pasted the article text directly into the 'Article Text' section, then the layout and font etc. may not be carried over correctly.

This means that sometimes you'll need to alter the HTML. This can be done by selecting on the HTML button at the bottom of the 'Article Text' section. The same can be done in the above 'Preview Text' section as well.

It's then simply a case of locating the font name and changing it to the correct one. The easiest way to complete this is to use ‘Ctrl F’ on your keyboard, then scroll through the corresponding text.

To make any images mobile responsive (so they fit well on different size screens), the following text needs to be added into the HTML:

class=”responsive-image”

This should be added to any image with the ‘IMG’ tag.

Categories

Categories are used to group together where your articles will be displayed.

To create a new category, go the Articles tab again and select ‘Manage Categories’.

You can then add any new categories, or amend any existing ones.

You can create a new category by selecting the ‘New Category’ button and giving it a name. This will then be added to the list shown on the left-hand side.

You can then decide where in the list the new category will appear. The order in which it appears will reflect any drop-down lists or other menus where the categories are displayed.
